It was clear skies overhead when we took Shibuya by storm on Saturday, June 30th, for the fourth annual TEDxTokyo event. Under the theme “Where Art Meets Science”, this year’s event was our biggest yet, with more than 350 guests, speakers, media and partners joining the TEDxTokyo crew at our new location in Tokyu’s Shibuya Hikarie complex. Thousands more watched the event live online; caught the simulcast on the Q’s Eye screen high above Shibuya Crossing – an historic first; and created buzz across popular social media platforms – making TEDxTokyo the No. 1 trending topic on Twitter in Japan for most of the day. The house was rocking!
TEDxTokyo 2012 kicked off at 9AM with celebrated tenor John Ken Nuzzo’s apt and stirring “Nessun Dorma” – “No One Sleeps” – a performance that set the tone for the day as speaker after speaker enthralled and energized an appreciative audience with “Ideas Worth Sharing”.
But as anyone who is familiar with TEDxTokyo will tell you, the event itself is merely a beginning – after the applause has died down, the buzz continues to resonate online at our video archive. Testament to the expertise of our team of technical volunteers, all of the videos were online within 3.5 hours of the final curtain – a new record! Take a moment to revisit performances that inspired you or to discover ideas you’d like to share with your community.
This year’s event wouldn’t have been possible without our partners; in record numbers they provided cooperation and support that helped the TEDxTokyo community reach new heights. Learn more about them here.
We’d also like to thank you – our audience – because it’s your interest and engagement that gives meaning to what we do and ultimately makes our efforts worthwhile. We look forward to seeing you around TEDxtokyo.com … and face to face at TEDxTokyo 2013!
