About TEDxTokyo
In the spirit of “ideas worth spreading”, TEDx is a program designed to give communities, organizations and individuals the opportunity to create their own TED-like events at the local level. TEDxTokyo played a leading role in the early development of the TEDx movement; it was the first TEDx conference to be held following the US launch event in June 2009. Now celebrating its seventh anniversary, the conference has become a powerful platform for bringing together global innovators and creative talent from Japan and around the world. It provides a forum for sharing the best Japanese ideas and innovation as well as stimulation for the country’s business leaders and entrepreneurs as Japan redefines its role on the world stage. TEDxTokyo 2015 will take place with a theme of “Igniting Curiosity” at Act Scuare in Ebisu, Tokyo on Friday, July 3rd.
About TED
TED is a nonprofit devoted to Ideas Worth Spreading. It started out (in 1984) as a conference bringing together people from the worlds of Technology, Entertainment, Design.
Since then its scope has grown. Along with two annual conferences – the TED Conference in Long Beach, California each spring, and TEDGlobal in Edinburgh, UK each summer – TED includes the award-winning TED Talks site, which provides over 1,400 of the best talks and performances from TED and partners available to the world, for free, with more added each week. Over 1,000 are subtitled in Japanese.
Other initiatives include the Open Translation Project, TED Fellows, the TEDx program and the annual TED Prize.

speak
We are now accepting speaker nominations for TEDxTokyo in fall 2016. Diversity is a key element in the magic of any TEDx event, so whether you (or someone you know) is a speaker, dancer, performing artist, comedian or ‘other’, we’d love to hear from you! We’re looking for talks covering a wide variety of areas, including creativity, invention, business, science and the most pressing global issues.
participate
Online applications to attend TEDxTokyo 2016 will be opening in late May. Due to limited seating at our main venue and the exceptionally high demand for places, we will be holding a number of simultaneous public viewing events, in addition to live streaming the entire event in both English and Japanese. Follow us on Twitter and Facebook for regular updates on opportunities to attend.
volunteer
TEDxTokyo is made possible by a core team of passionate and dedicated volunteers working year-round, who are joined by additional members for key events. From stage design to handling media enquiries, from speaker curation to simultaneous interpretation – positions cover a wide variety of areas.
