Tokyu and TEDxTokyo Partnership

Tokyu Corporation and TEDxTokyo first met back in 2011, when the Tokyu Toyoko Line Shibuya Station was about to be relocated and a large-scale redevelopment project was underway. It was a time when a software upgrade was just as needed as the commencing hardware upgrade.

Tokyu Corporation was searching for content that matched the project theme “Entertainment City Shibuya.” That’s when they met TEDxTokyo. Shibuya is one of the leading cultural and fashionable cities in the world, where people in fashion, design, music and advertising crowd the streets more than suit-clad businessmen. We immediately sensed the chemistry between TEDxTokyo and Shibuya and hoped that TEDxTokyo would bring in influential contents that match the powerfulness of Shibuya.

On June 30th, 2012, “TEDxTokyo 2012,” became a grand opening event for Shibuya Hikarie, one of the landmarks that symbolize the redevelopment of Shibuya. The whole event was streamed live and was broadcast on the giant screen at the Shibuya crossing.

Shibuya is a place where ideas gather and that event captured that belief – a belief that with new encounters and by integrating the city and creativity, a new energy would be generated to help forge a new future for the city.

An idea is indispensible in creating a new future, but an idea alone is not enough to move the world. TEDxTokyo provides an environment where people who are trying to shape their ideas and to make them a reality can meet, discuss and collaborate. With hopes of encouraging Shibuya to become a world-renown source of creativity, this partnership between TEDxTokyo and Tokyu Corporation will continue.
